I had no idea what Suffragette was. When I received the invitation from The Moms for a special screening of the movie, I didn’t blink and RSVPed. After the fact, I went and watched the trailer for the movie and my jaw dropped. I couldn’t wait for the day. When I got to the location, we had light bites and the GlamSquad did my hair and makeup! That’s the best way to start your day, getting glam! I have to add, this was a terrible morning for me, I feel in the middle of the street trying to run to catch the bus so I could make it into Manhattan on time. I cried and almost turned around and went home- I AM SO GLAD I DIDN’T!
We started the screening and I have to say, without a doubt one of my favorite movies EVER. The location, the casting, the story, everything about this movie is just done with the out most attention to detail and historical fact. Carey Mulligan is the start of this story as we follow her life and her involvement in the Suffragette movement in England. The Suffragette movement was started to allow women to vote and make themselves heard. The acting is superb, including a short but powerful cameo by Meryl Streep. Helena Bonham Carter is also spectacular in the movie.

This movie comes out October 26th and I can’t wait. After we screened it, we had a Q & A with the director and writer of the movie. Sarah Gavron and Abi Morgan respectively, were very candid about how the project came about and what it means to have a story like this produce and written by women. They spoke about the personal links to the story as well as how being a woman has affected them in the movie industry.
Honestly this is a MUST SEE. I learned and I was touched by this movie in so many ways. The story is not only historical but it’s so current as well. With the fight of women for equal pay and the debate of women’s roles the story of the Suffragette movement is still pretty much alive because the fight for equality is still going on.
Thanks to The Moms Network for another fabulous time.
