If you know anything about Star Wars is that the hype is real and contagious. Seriously even E! News is talking about this movie. 10 years ago if you said you like Star Wars you were automatically considered a geek. To say that the bandwagon has grown is an understatement. Everyone is trying to make a buck off the insane desire for this movie. Of course, like with anything Disney, there is the wait and the hype and the speculations and the merchandise. You can’t walk into any store without seeing some type of Star Wars merchandise. From simple things like t-shirts, to car chargers to cell phone cases- there’s nothing you can’t find.

My husband, a fan since he was a child (you can read about it here),  has been freaking out over the merchandise for the movie. Not only because it’s cool as hell, but because of the amount of limited items. We are both collectors by nature so it was like a hit to his wallet that both Hasbro and Disney Store decided to do exclusive Black Series and Elite Series respectively. These series both released on Force Friday back in September. But here’s the catch. These are limited amounts of these figures so it’s been like finding needles in a haystack. Besides that, there’s also the fact that they are being released in waves! Disney Store has a lottery to win them. Needless to say the quest for exclusive and limited edition merchandise has become our mission.

That aside, Star Wars has become part of our family. We started letting the kids watch Star Wars Rebels last year and that’s how the madness became even bigger. There are tons of ways that you can get your kids to get the excitement of Star Wars. There are books, movies, even LEGO (here’s my husbands post on introducing Star Wars to kids). Are we watching the movie as a family in December? Probably not. As much as I want the kids to enjoy it, so far they have enjoyed every trailer and some of the other movies, I just don’t think they’re ready. Did we get tickets? Absolutely. I will probably reassess if it is appropriate for them come December.

I am so looking forward to this movie. There’s 2 simple reasons why! Because my house is like walking into a Disney Park and because not ONE but TWO of the main characters are women. And they are not small characters, they are badass women. I think this is so awesome for girls who are fans of the movies. In the previous six movies there have only been 2 characters: Padme and Leia, so for Rey and Captain Phasma to be center stage in The Force Awakens is beyond cool.
