I am a sucker for traditions, anything that I can do every year, the same way, so that I can pass it on to my kids I am all over. Pumpkin picking has become one of those traditions, but NOT just pumpkin picking, but doing it at the same farm every year. White Post Farm in Long Island NYC, throws a Fall Festival that I have fallen in love with, for 3 things: hay “pool”, apple and pecan pie, and pig races. Honestly the pumpkins are a just a bonus.
Every year it gets crazier to find a date to go since we try to avoid weekend activities because of the crowd but the festival is only on the weekends. So we picked the second weekend of October. Still mild weather and the second to last weekend of the festival. This is not your average festival! It is $16 to enter but it includes, pumpkin patch, hay play, the pig race, hay rides, playgrounds, the zoo, bounce castle. The works! It is so worth it in my opinion, that I don’t care we would still go! The hay play is always the most fun. And my kids love the seeing the pigs race for a cookie.
This is one of those things that fills me up with joy. I can’t even describe how perfect days like those feel to me. It was just the family having fun, outside. This year even more because we had a new little person to enjoy it with. We spent the whole day at the farm, from noon to closing. No tantrums, yummy corn, awesome hayrides.
The best part, besides the family time together was that you can buy a fresh homemade apple or pecan pie! So fresh that it’s still warm when you take it! I feel traditions ground us. It’s never the same, yet there is a familiarity about the event or activity that feels comforting. This is just one of my fall traditions. As a cancer I am all obsessed with traditions and have many more for every season! Do you have any fall traditions??
