A day in Winchester, Virginia

There are some days that are so incredibly amazing that I have to pinch myself. My husband had to take his car in for a tune up in Winchester, Virginia. I had been there twice and love this cute little town about an hour from DC. This was his first time.

We hit the road around 7am and got there exactly at 8:02, dropped off the car and proceeded to walk. We were about 10 miles from the center of town, which is where we wanted to go. It is the perfect mix of old town charm with nice restaurants and shops.

The center of town has dozens of restaurants to choose from as well as a couple of museums, tons of shops and even a water feature. And FYI, you need quarters to use the public restroom. We had breakfast at a cafe called Espresso Bar & Cafe. This place had the most amazing coffee I’ve had in a while. I decided to be adventurous and try their Lavender Latte. OMG. It was coffee with light-but palpable lavender taste. My husband had an croissant sandwich, with whipped eggs, black forest ham and Wisconsin sharp cheddar.

We walked to the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum (children’s museum). It was amazing. We didn’t get to enjoy it because I do think she was too little to fully enjoy the experience. Entrance is $8 for adults, which is not bad and no strollers are allowed in the exhibition halls. The museum is fully interactive. Within walking distance you also have George Washington’s Office Museum, as well as the Old Court House Civil War Museum. I love museums and these are just the perfect amount of history to learn about United States.

For lunch we headed to Snow White Grill. They have the BEST sliders in Virginia. They are so good that they sometimes sell out just a few hours after opening. So we made sure to be first in line! We had some pulled pork and regular sliders with a side of waffle fries. After lunch we walked around and actually went into a lot of the shops. There are so many cute shops with truly unique items. My favorite was HandWorks Gallery, which has a mix of jewelry and accessories for women as well as the home, all handcrafted.

After we saw Old Town Winchester we took the trolley to the Apple Blossom Mall. The trolley is only a dollar and they take BILLS! We drove around the trolley for about 25 minutes just taking in the views of this charming town. We arrived at the mall and checked out the stores. Of course, by now we were hungry again so we settled on good old Chick-Fil-A. We walked about 20 minutes from the mall to the car place and it wasn’t ready so we headed to playground across the street. It was glorious. I was happy my cell phone died by then so I could focus on Baby G3 and my Husband.

Before we left Winchester we had one more stop. I requested to stop by Gabriel Brother’s. This store is so hard to describe but they have everything, and I ended up buying myself some sandals as my shoes were killing me by then.

I recommend this little town to anyone. You could even make it a weekend getaway because there is sooo much to see. Unfortunately, my husband had to work the next day so we had to leave, not without making amazing memories and unforgettable moments.
